Abdominal separation, also known as diastasis recti, is a common condition that occurs when the two large parallel bands of muscles (rectus abdominis) that meet in the middle of the abdomen separate. This separation can happen during pregnancy as the uterus stretches the muscles to accommodate the growing baby.
